I will resume search for oil along the Lake Chad Basin - Buhari

President-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari says he will resume vigorous search for oil along the Chad Basin in parts of Borno State and other parts of the Northeast region once he is sworn in as President come May 29th. According to KSM news, Buhari said this while receiving Borno state Governor Kashim Shettima and Traditional Rulers and Elders from Borno state who came to Kaduna to pay him a congratulatory visit on Sunday April 19th. More pics after the cut...

KSM news reports (the official news agency for Borno governor) that Gen Buhari in his address to the people promised to work to restore peace in the Northeast region by according top priority to ending the activities of  Boko Haram. He promised to work in collaboration with the government of Chad, Cameroon and Niger to curtail the trans border movement of Boko Haram insurgents, cut supply of arms as well as cut the recruitment and training of fresh recruits.

On Agriculture, the president-elect said the receding of Lake Chad will be addressed through the transfer of water from the Central African Republic to the lake to boost its commercial activities for fishing and irrigation farming.

He recalled that he once read a document raising fears about receding of the Lake Chad which he handed over to former President Olusegun Obasanjo but now that he would be coming as President, he will handle the matter.

There are more important things to do. Start by sorting out the damn security in this country starting with your police force. If you can't keep it federal then make it state-managed. JEEZ! This country drives me so damn crazy! There are way too many hooligans on the loose! Sort that out and stop looking for hopeless oil! FFS! We have way too many issues to tackle but the agendum right now is oil!? OIL!? I'm really irritated. This country might just be officially doomed. No coming back.

Buhari's statements always starts with an 'I'. Hmmmmm! A good team member always makes his statement starting with 'We'. We want a good leader not a dictator. In God we trust. Change must happen in our dear country NIGERIA! 'Though tribes and tongue may differ, in brotherhood we stand. Nigerians all are proud to serve, our sovereign motherland'.

I hope dis r not empty promise's dat wil b put aside when he is in power. I pray he keeps to his words.

Slowly but surely, he is beginning to reveal his true color. During the military regimes, NNPC wasted billions of our oil money futilely looking for oil in that area with no success. No private company believes there is oil there, so they don't put money there. Do you think Dangote, Dantata, Danjuma and co wouldn't have been in there if there was oil? What a waste of resources. What about the mining and agriculture he was talking about during campaigns?

Nigerians are so gullible!

Good for you, search for the oil wella. Northerners have been in charge of Niger delta oil well since 1900. I know if it was the other way round, they would have daggered anyone that it not their own that wants to claim oil well.
Well, may GOD HELP THEM to get their own Oil lets see what will happen.

Making so many promises that of which we know none will be fulfilled, yet the gullible North swallow everything this man spews out hook, line and sinker! The unfortunate truth is that in the end this man will achieve things but none of which he promised but most or some of which a few people would benefit from. That has being the Nigerian way, so GMB would not be any different. I just wish one President would come with one solid agenda and focus his regime in achieving that and other minor ones; like Obama did in the US.

Unknown said...

Poverty has eaten deep in the north east and GMB need to do something urgently to address BH menace.May God help u GMB.

For years, trillions of dollars have been wasted drilling for oil in the North without success. No one is talking about it. Its almost certain that 100% resource control will be awarded once the North finds oil which everyone knows they wont. If your seismic doesn't show prospects, why waste millions drilling dry wells?

Why not bring back the groundnut pyramids of Kano? Why continue the waste if your administration is really about Nigeria. If Nigerians think PDP was bad, sit back and relax....the change they promised you (whether good or bad) will start unfolding after May.

NNPC spent trillions of dollars searching for oil in d North when they were forced by the then Northern presidents to drill many dry wells with the most sophisticated rigs in d world. This is despite several recommendations from experts that they shouldn't. You can verify this from any informed NNPC staff (1975 - 1988). Buhari wants to do the same again. I pity you all

As soon as you find oil there what will then happen sir?

This man must be sick, how can he even imagine wasting Nigeria's money to search for oil in a dry land? My friend you better don't waste our Niger delta oil income else we will treat your matter. My dear its impossible to find oil there. Oil forms where there are marine sediments and d marine sediments in d chad basin are too young to give off oil. He just plans to waste money

Only fools won't understand what the president elect is talking abt. What is Jonathan, who is from Niger delta doing abt oil spillage in that area? If Buhari can succeed in finding oil in the north, it will stop the "oil is from us" that the south-south and the South-east scream abt all the time!

Anonymous said...

i don't get. Is he supposed to list all the things he plans to do in one day? Didn't he address agriculture? He is in Borno, so he talking about issue related to Borno. At least he went to Borno, what of Jonathan that refused to step foot in Borno until the election extension? All of you making demands, what did Jonathan do in the North? At least he is trying to bring some activity and development to the North, what did Jonathan do? Didn't he concentrate money on the SS ans SE? So you know what a good leader ought to do but you are there shouting GEJ up and down as if GEJ did anything. Did Buhari spill the oils in the Niger Delta? Why couldn't you hero GEJ clean it up? Now you want Buhari to do it! Hypocrites.

When a well educated person speaks ...it soothes the soul. Oil was found its commercial quantity that needs to ascertained. Unknown to many test have been carried out and still ongoing.the present Nnpc boss was head of that exploration. Just because there's oil you just don't go in straight and start drilling processes are involved. Just cause you don't see it in newspapers doesn't mean its not happening. Research before you comment

Icee, to add to my comment above, oil was found around Gatwick in the Uk, go figure what kind of area Gatwick is!!

Anonymous said...

If it is a dictator nigeria needs so be it! Nigerians need to learn discipline and integrity by force .

Anonymous said...

Yawn. Nigerians, oya, the change is coming. Change can mean anything. This is one interpretation. Maybe this time they will find a drop of oil in Borno. How can anyone even think of exploration in a zone where the probability of a good find is close to nil at a time when the oil industry is threatened by green technology? We will soon be using vegetable oil and water in our cars. Abi na gas reserve you dey find? You think the north will be liberated once they find oil? No! You are permanently tied to our asses. You will continue to need our southern breastmilk to survive. Stop wasting resources. Maybe groundnut oil is a better investment. How about you mechanize the production. 1 gallon is $35 in the US. If you tap into that market, you will be making a killing. Or maybe I should shut up so that the north can be polluted like my backyard and so that they can also have leukemia. Yup. Let me shut up. General, how about you place a petrochemicals plant in Daura? That would be a fabulous idea. You can make it two.

My dear Anonymous, there is no formation capable of being a reservoir rock in the Chad Basin. There are reservoir rocks in Gatwick, mind you in exploration its what is on the subsurface that is important not what you see at the surface.

I don't see the re-visit of oil exploration in the Lake Chad basin as a priority for now. We all have seen what the drop of oil price has done to our economy lately. This is the time to diversify our means of foreign incomes.
